The Art of Getting Lost in a Book

As a young girl, I read books, magazines, cereal boxes, junk mail, and anything with print. I loved to read and learn. Since we lived in the country and didn’t have many friends close by, reading became my escape to adventure and mystery. Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden were friends of mine. I was shocked by Tom Sawyer. Other children, I read about amazed me. They were brave, athletic, and adventurous. I wasn’t any of those things, but I learned from them. I had mastered the art of getting lost in a book.
Get Caught Reading is a campaign to encourage children to read wherever they might find themselves. So this month, I’m going to begin carrying my book bag with me again. Instead of pulling out my phone, I plan to pull out a book. Posting pictures on social media seems counter initiative, but I guess I will. To encourage children and adults alike that you can get lost in a book anywhere!
